almost my entire section this episode was the fight scene between Huntress and Witch Wizard, had so much fun drawing her and all her different animal forms. I put a lot of effort into this one... maybe my sweatiest episode this season.

this is the meat of my section, the Huntress/Witch Wizard fight scene!! fight scenes don't come quickly or easily to me so I'm feeling really proud of this one, I think it turned out really exciting.
.
this sequence contains some really clean board revisions from Benji Lee. Benji, Dave Alegre and Jackie Lee were the load bearing walls of the board team doing revisions on this season!! we try our best to finish as much as we can but it's pretty much impossible for board artists to clean their board 100%-- just not enough time. Revisions really had our back this season and they did great work.
.
One last fight scene between Huntress and the Green Wizards, designed by Tom Herpich. on sections I don't have time to fully clean I try my best to pose everything out so that revisions doesn't have to do a lot of guessing or mind reading. (It's fun to plus stuff up as a revisionist if you have the time but it quickly becomes a nightmare on top of everything else you have to do!)
I got to design what the Undergrowth looked like-- I wanted it to be a mess of blood vessels and aortas styled like thorny vines.

I got to finalize the Witch Wizard design! I based her off of some excellent Tom Herpich-- the flashback Witch Wizard design during Graham's cold open is one of those. But we decided she needed to look different after some time had passed. I love a mean old nasty grinch of a woman.
my sketchbook page that became the basis for the look of the Undergrowth. I think it's even the background behind the title of the show in the opening...!
i usually do a very rough paper thumbnail pass the first day so I can look at general layouts very quickly and wrap my mind around the pacing and how much work each episode is going to be. here's a couple pages as example of what that looks like but it does get way messier than this since I usually redraw every thumb in SB Pro by the time the first pitch rolls around. sometimes these paper sketches make it in though
Witch Wizard's bear form is taken from last season when she scratched up Finn. I love drawing tiny beady eyes and a big hinged mouth
I got to design Witch Wizard's frog and crocodile forms!
this sequence where they're tumbling and fighting through the sky was fun, I got to draw a lot of crazy poses! drawing different dynamic poses of a bird in flight was something I don't get to do very often but was very fun.
A lot of people said they recognized my section because of the croc drawings. well.... they're right
couldn't tell you why but I got really fixated on Witch Wizard's teeth staying broken for the entire rest of the season after she messes them up on that log... one of her many charm points to me
The Heart of the Forest is based off of some incredible Tom Herpich designs (you will hear us saying that a lot about this season)
Obsessed with this drawing... my only regret is I didn't get to draw Witch Wizard more (and I got to draw her the most alongside Maya Petersen, they are responsible for the incredibly intense Huntress/Witch Wizard fight later in the season)
